Clay mosaic
The ongoing trauma in the Native American community over missing and murdered women and girls is the inspiration for "Mother of Broken Wings". The sorrow of all mothers, daughters, sisters and friends is reflected in the figure of a Native woman tenderly holding in her arms wings and feathers. A halo of almond blossoms, roses and forget-me-nots encircles her head, a tree of life, hope, love and remembrance. This piece is composed of caste clay mosaic, carved clay elements and grout mounted on a 28" x 42" board. "Mother of Broken Wings" was gifted to the Fort Peck Assiniboine and Sioux tribe by a generous donor and is displayed in the Wolf Point Montana High School.
